"祭" - read "Matsuri" – is an ongoing long-term documentary project focused on traditional and modern Japanese festivals.

The original idea had its inception as a 2-month-long short-term documentary photography project, serving as the Final Major Project for the BA Documentary Photography and Photojournalism at the University of the Arts London, but quickly expanded into a personal desire to document and catalogue every currently active festival in Japan.

Owing to the current global pandemic, the project has been put on hold indefinitely as, despite currently residing in Japan, not only travel outside one's prefecture of residence has been discouraged, but the majority of these festivals have either been postponed or banned public attendance.

As such, the project will be resumed as soon as I can freely travel within the country once again (and, of course, as public attendance to these festivities restart).
